"Quantum IL" (Quantum Israel), a program developed by Mafat, and in which selected engineers and managers working in the Israel’s high-tech industrial complex receive long training in quantum physics applications. After spending many weeks in sessions dedicated to theoretical subjects, the participants complete a practical project in the final five weeks of the course. As part of the program, JCT was one of thirteen institutions selected to host the practical phase of the program, funded by a grant from Mafat. The training took place at the JCT Nanotechnology Center for Research and Education (HOME | A.L.E.O), under the leadership of Dr. Avi Karsenty, who has extensive experience developing nano-electronic and nano-photonic devices for defense applications and has been selected as supervisor by Mafat for this project. At JCT, the Quantum IL participants worked on the development of a quantum well-based light emitting transistor that will enable combined electronic and photonic computing.
